The subsets of AIE we deploy are the elements which demand that an estimator applies a neutral confidence to their estimate. What are often termed the Monte Carlo methods. We do not apply mathematical rigour to this as it is a mostly subjective activity. The experienced estimator can apply a weighting or calibration to example their relative over confidence or under confidence regarding an estimate. This concept is further extended when we model uncertainty scenarios using prototypes and use those to improve our uncertainty estimates. It is deployed further when we expend yet more prototyping effort to reduce uncertainty by making further measurement, assessment and correction.

Furthermore we support random sampling and banded estimates involved in the planning poker estimation technique we describe elsewhere in the Toolkit. We also support elements of the Modern Portfolio Theory when we come to assess and combine the investment made at the Project Portfolio level for the organisation and assess the investment alternatives.
