In the Parallel Empirical Estimation technique you can make no such assumption and instead use analysis of detailed information collected concerning the project. This information, such as number of inputs and outputs or number of screens or percentage difficulty of the project or percentage capability of development teams in the chosen platform or programming language, is used to compare and contrast mathematically against previous projects.

By using Parallel Estimation your effort prediction activities will be more accurate and as they are based on actual project effort from previous activities, your project teams are more likely to be signed up and bought into your estimate. Furthermore, it will likely be easier to secure budget when you present estimates for projects based on real actuals from parallel projects. Naturally, the Parallel Estimation method is one that improves with age and with usage. We recommend that you start to record project estimates and actuals in a database, as early as possible to facilitate a basis for more accurate estimating activity.
