We use a lot of blue tack. So prepare yourself an armoury of 20 or so balls of blue tack. Pop them down the side of your flipchart. You can pick them off one by one as and when you need them. do not be bound by just one piece of flipchart paper. If the writing ends up too small and cramped, you will be unable to decipher your handwriting and unable to uncover the important information you collected. Use colour sparingly and be aware of the colour blindness issues surrounding the colours, red and green. If in doubt, use blue to highlight.

We all tend to wildly use three letter acronyms. As they appear, document them on a separate flipchart to build a glossary for reference later. Finally, be aware of Spray Mount. It is an aerosol adhesive used to stick paper. it is a great idea however; it plays havoc with the smoke alarm and fire detection equipment in modern office buildings.

We have seen some very striking evidence of this, in our own experience. This was most conspicuously seen and demonstrated by the workshop facilitator, from another company, who liberally spread clouds of spray mount onto the wall of the meeting room which enlivened the fire detection sensor, triggered a full-blown fire alarm causing the evacuation of nearly 1000 people in a large government organisation. It was a cold day outside of the evacuees did not welcome an unannounced exit.

Finally, when faced with the challenges of uncovering the next issue or solution, consider using swot analysis at PEST analysis. Pest stands for political, economic, social or technical. Swot stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
