In the Toolkit, we have a straightforward method for project planning with plans that are simple to prepare. Anything more than our recommendation is fine but not mandatory.

All plans are produced in conjunction with project partners who committed to provide assistance in the course of the Engagement Commitments process. However, planning is an important precursor to understanding the risks and opportunities as well as identifying the stepping stones that demonstrate the elements of progress to your management and peers.

it is a process that cannot be absolved and is the sole responsibility of the project to develop and deliver. For the purposes of project planning the Toolkit provides three planning products.

The three planning products are produced to make sure we all know what is being delivered and what is going to be released, to where and when. The plans also tell us what is expected from us and what is expected from others, our responsibilities for true accountable collaboration on our project.

Finally the plans describe how we get the proposed benefits we seek and how they will be confirmed.

We will understand the landscape, in which we work, confirm we are ready to start and we have a good chance to deliver the benefits from this project. This is performed to setup our project.

So we agree and document that in what is not too surprisingly called the Setup Plan. We have an approach to delivery, a requirements list and a carefully partitioned schedule to show when we deliver each requirement. This we agree and document in a Delivery Plan. From this schedule of releasable deliverables we synchronise a programme of releases and shipments in coordination with our release partners and document that in the Release Plan. The training of project partners are recorded in the Training Plan and those deliveries that reach the live environment are lodged in the Deployment Plan.
