Manage   »   Stakeholders   »   RACI matrix

The RACI matrix is an established technique to group the various role types that individuals play.

The matrix uses the first letter of the RACI word to identify the term most suitably associated with that role.

These are as follows:

  • R: responsible: Who is responsibility for all or part of the project?
  • A: accountable: Who has authority to approve or disapprove it?
  • C: consulted: Who needs input about the project?
  • I: Informed: Who needs to be informed about the project?
When you assign the appropriate role to the relevant stakeholder you will be able to identify and assign the most appropriate communications and management depending on the role your various stakeholders play within the project.

Tailoring the type of interaction with your stakeholder is likely to be more successful than simply emailing them a weekly update.
