The Release Plan is built with the collaboration and involvement of your deployment and business partners and is the principal output from the Release Planning Workshop. The Release Plan is the projects agreed, documented schedule showing the issuing of shipments for the evaluation of agreed functionality at agreed times. These releases are termed shipments and we utilise the term shipment purely because the use of the term release is so varied and non standard. To clarify another area and to avoid confusion, transfers of functionality from the development environment to assessment or release environments are documented in the Delivery Plan.

Shipments are transfers of functionality from assessment (or release) to a live environment. The Release Plan records and illustrates the measured progress of the deployed solution on the delivery date via a series of shipments. Each transfer of agreed functionality has a shipment date and includes user requirements from the Prioritised Story Board which that shipment will provide.
