The big Agile Six Pack.

Six Sigma is the big grown up Super Daddy agile development method.

It is a business management approach that aims to improve the quality of outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects and by minimizing process inconsistencies.

It uses a standard set of quality management methods and has a set of specially entitled responsibilities which include Black Belts, Master Black Belts, Green Belts, etc.

They all perform slightly different roles within the project. The project follows a sequence of steps with a quantified financial target of either cost reduction or profit increase. When Six Sigma was introduced the world of agile was small. Now the Six Sigma concepts, although crucial, are standard natural agile principles. The techniques to map to Six Sigma are across the Toolkit. Use Six Sigma and the Toolkit for governance in Six Sigma centric organisations, certainly. What you are adding to the mix is the increased integrity of your agile method and the improved capability of your organisation to operate Six Sigma projects under sound management and with full operational financial examination.
