System testing (aka end to end testing) requires detailed planning. It will demand specific environments and tailored system test data as well as some setting up of the system to mimic specific system events such as first start-up, monthly cycles, etc.

The objective of system testing is to assure that the overall requirements of the system can be demonstrated and that the system can be run end to end without detailed knowledge of system internals by the user. During the setup, the system may need certain triggers and dates established in order to fire off desired events. However, you want to make sure that you demonstrate (albeit in a non-live environment) the end to end the operation of the system without manual intervention and adjustment. End to end evaluation of the system in the live environment will probably first take place when you perform pilot testing.
